A few notes from our meeting today: -Grouping of fruit trees/bushes of the same kind together to make harvesting easier (Alastair and I spoke about this before you came, Josef) -Keep the view into the field from the Granary windows - see this pic: http://www.flickr.com/photos/uniteddiversity/5529339789/ -Plant some ash trees as future coppice on track down to the Quadrangle -Check 'Orange Pippin' website -Possibly plant some fruit trees (apples?) along the fence line where cars will be parked -We need not restrict ourselves to apples on the list of alkaline tolerant varieties - look and see what does well locally -'Discovery' does well in Quad orchard - Bramley around the back also do well - Cox's Orange Pippin doesn't do very well - Laxton Superb fruits well but gets loads of scab -Site for compost loo by existing compost heap (space is roughly 5m x 5m) -Large yurt/tent space more or less in the middle of the field - Josef suggests we expand our list of canopy species to get more diversity (for increased resilience and greater variety of outputs) and an improved teaching resource - see list here: http://files.uniteddiversity.com/United_Diversity/Quadrangle_Forest_Garden/The_definitive_species_list.txt - Josef has updated the Alkaline Tolerant list of Apple cultivars with missing information (although still need info about suppliers): - http://files.uniteddiversity.com/United_Diversity/Quadrangle_Forest_Garden/Alkaline_Tolerant_Apples/Alkaline_Tolerant_Apples.txt By next meeting (April 7th at Oakford Rd): Write brief for the different 'guilds' i.e. describe the conditions and our requirements Each of us to design planting plan for 3 guilds Josef to design planting plan for car park fence line Deborah to design planting plan for hedgerow boundary
